MG to launch ZS petrol in India

With the launch of the ZS EV and the favourable response to the car, MG has also decided to launch a petrol version of the SUV. The engine in question is a 1.0-litre direct-injection petrol unit that puts out 111hp and 160Nm of torque. Just about enough to give the midsize SUV decent performance, the ZS has a claimed top speed of 180kph and a 0-100kph time of 12.4sec.The engine, however, is said to be quite responsive, with an impressive torque delivery. Also smooth-shifting is the 6-speed automatic gearbox that the car is likely to be specified with when it gets here.

Classy interiors look nicer in black and chrome.

The ZS petrol isn’t expected to hit showrooms until early next year, so we could likely get the mildly facelifted version, which will also come with sportier, and better-specified interior. Insiders, in fact, quality levels in the cabin are a bit of a step up, compared to those on the ZS EV.

The considerably lighter petrol version is also likely to feel more agile than the electric version of the SUV we have. And if MG equips it well and prices it competitively, the SUV could have a good chance of finding favour with Indian car buyers too. Expect a starting price of around Rs 16 lakh.
