Today, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) reached a landmark of exporting over 2.5 million two-wheelers from India, giving it a 50 percent market share in scooter exports from the country. With large shipment volumes of the Honda Dio, the company has also bagged the top spot of being the No 1 scooter exporter from India.
The company says that it has seen an accelerated growth coming on the back of its diversified export portfolio. It started with just the Activa scooter in 2001; today, it stands at a total of 18 models including motorcycles getting shipped to 26 countries led by Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.
While it took HMSI almost a decade and a half to reach its first major milestone of shipping one million units in 2015, it doubled its export speed to complete another 1.5 million units and arrive at the landmark in just five years. Company says rapid expansion of its product portfolio saw HMSI receiving additional exports allocation by Honda Motor Japan over the years.
According to Yadvinder Singh Guleria, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing, HMSI, “Since beginning, Honda has delighted over 2,500,000 two-wheeler customers through our exports. We are proud to be the No 1 scooter exporter from India. With an eye on 2020, Honda 2Wheelers India aims to further consolidate its No 1 position in Honda’s global motorcycle business while unlocking the next chapter of exports growth in the BS6 era.”
