MG ZS EV bookings to open on December 21

Ahead of prices for the MG ZS EV being announced in January 2020, the all-electric SUV will be available for booking from December 21, 2019. Expected to be priced at about Rs 22 lakh (ex-showroom) as it will be brought in as a CKD (completely knocked down), the ZS EV is MG’s second product for India.

As we’ve reported previously, the MG ZS EV comes with a 44.5kWh battery pack that has an ARAI-certified range of 340km on a single charge. Power comes from a 143hp/353Nm electric motor that helps the SUV hit the ton mark in a claimed 8.5sec. The ZS EV’s liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery can be charged to 80 percent (from zero) in 50min using a 50kW DC fast charger, which will be available at select MG showrooms. While a standard 7.4 kW AC home charger (provided by MG at the owner’s home or office) will take around 6-8 hours for a full charge, the EV also comes with a portable charging cable that can be used at any wall socket. Three levels of regenerative braking should also help keep range anxiety at bay, along with a mobile roadside assistance package that will be available if you ever run out of charge.

Like the MG Hector, the ZS EV will also come with what the carmaker calls MG Shield, which encompasses a range of aftersales initiatives and warranty plans, though some will be unique to the all-electric SUV.

MG Motor India’s got on the affordable EV train quite early – the only electric cars to precede MG’s EV are the Tata Tigor EV and the Hyundai Kona Electric. Click here to see how Hyundai’s EV and MG’s compare, on paper.
