Hyundai Venue secures 4-star ANCAP rating

The Hyundai Venue – which went on sale in India in May this year – is global model, retailing in left-hand drive form in North America and right-hand drive form in Australia. The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) has announced results for its latest round of crash tests that included Hyundai’s compact SUV. The Venue was awarded a four-star safety rating, due to good scores for adult occupancy and child occupancy protection tests.

In terms of safety for adults, the Venue managed to score 91 percent (34.8 out of 38), while the child occupancy score was 81 percent (40/49). One of the main reasons the Venue did not get a five-star rating was that its autonomous emergency braking system fell short when it came to avoiding rear collisions. It scores on the vulnerable road user and safety assist tests were also not up to the same standard as some of the other models tested this time around, like the Tesla Model X, MG’s HS SUV and the Audi A7 and Q8.

Standard safety kit on the Australia-spec Venue includes six airbags, ABS, ESC, seat belt pretensioners and reminders, autonomous emergency braking (City, Interurban and Vulnerable Road User), and a lane support system with lane keep assist (LKA), lane departure warning (LDW) and emergency lane keeping (ELK).

It should be noted that the ANCAP norms, like the Euro NCAP norms, are unlike the Global NCAP norms. For more details on why that is the case, click here. Taking this into consideration, the India-spec Hyundai Venue should at least manage to secure a similar four-star rating on Global NCAP’s tests.

Also unlike the model on sale in India – which comes with two petrol and one diesel engine option – the Venue for Australia is powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine making 122hp and 151Nm of torque.
