The KTM 1290 Super Adventure is the manufacturer’s flagship dual-sport motorcycle. The next-gen iteration of the bike was spotted testing, sporting a few changes from the existing model.
What are most noticeable from the pictures are the extra body panels, much like KTM factory rally bikes and the 790 Adventure variants. The upcoming 1290 Super Adventure is clad with lower panels that now cover up more of the engine assembly and parts of the trellis frame. This, in combination with what seems like a larger radiator, gives the front end of the bike a much wider stance. Speaking of which, the front end on the test mule features an adjustable windscreen and a temporary small, round headlight. The slit in the headlight section indicates that the production-spec model will probably sport the split LED headlight design seen on the current bike.
The test bike has been equipped with front and rear WP suspension. Something else that is immediately noticeable is the pannier-like box at the rear end. This, however, seems to be a housing for electronic equipment used to aid the testing process.
The current generation of the 1290 Super Adventure is available in two variants – a road-going S, and a more off-road-biased R model. Both bikes are powered by the same 1,301cc, V-twin producing a sizeable 160hp and 140Nm of torque. An update is in the works, most likely to enable the motorcycle to comply with Euro-V norms that come into effect from 2020 in Europe.
At present, there is no news of an India launch for the 1290 Super Adventure. However, KTM will launch the 390 Adventure, its entry level ADV motorcycle, in India.
