Yamaha reveal BS6 FZ 25, new FZS 25

Yamaha has just revealed the BS6 FZ 25 and nearly all details about it, except for the price. What’s interesting is that the bikemaker has also introduced a new variant of the model, the FZS 25. Just like the FZ and FZ-S, this S variant too is distinguished from the standard bike by a few cosmetic elements.

The BS4-spec FZ 25 is priced at Rs 1.37 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and if the hike for the BS6 version is similar to what the R15 and FZ V3.0 have witnessed, we could see the FZ 25 get around Rs 3,000-4,000 more expensive.

To update the engines to comply with more stringent emission norms, many manufacturers have had to compromise on the performance the bikes had to offer. However, in this case, Yamaha has managed to tune the bike to produce nearly the same peak output figures – 20.8hp at 8,000rpm and 20.1Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. For reference, the BS4 bike makes 20.9hp and 20Nm at identical points in the rev range. We've also been told that the bike now weighs 1kg more, at 153kg (kerb weight).

The rest of the bike remains largely unchanged, but Yamaha is offering it with a few new colour schemes. The FZ 25 will be available in a Metallic Black and Racing Blue colour, while the FZS 25 will be offered in dual-tone Dark Cyan, Dark Matte Blue and Metallic White scheme, of which the first two feature golden-coloured alloy wheels. Yamaha has also added a new side-stand-down engine inhibitor, redesigned instrument cluster, belly pan, and a headlight that we hope offers better performance than the one on the outgoing FZ 25. Additionally, the FZS 25 gets knuckle guards as well.

Yamaha has also revealed that the new FZ 25 and FZS 25 will be available from April 2020, suggesting that the outgoing bike will be on sale until the mandatory BS6 norms come into effect on April 1.
