Royal Enfield Classic 500 Tribute Black Limited Edition revealed

Royal Enfield has just officially announced that production of its 500cc UCE (Unit Construction Engine) will soon come to an end, taking the Classic 500, Bullet 500 and Thunderbird 500 models out of production with it. To commemorate the occasion, the manufacturer has revealed a Classic 500 Tribute Black Limited Edition that will go on sale on February 10 between 2pm-5pm. Registration for the sale starts today on the company’s website.

These limited-edition motorcycles will be the last lot of Royal Enfields to feature the500cc, long-stroke, single-cylinder UCE and will be made to order in a limited production run. Each of the motorcycles will carry a unique ‘End of Build’ serial number and will feature a dual-tone matte-and-gloss black colour scheme.

The current Classic 500 was launched back in 2008 and has been one of the manufacturer’s most successful motorcycles. However, the engine hasn't received an update since it came into existence – apart from meeting the updated emissions norms over the years – and upgrading it to comply with the more stringent norms may have proved to be difficult for the manufacturer. Especially when the recently launched 650 Twins sit rather close in terms of displacement, but offer significantly better performance and are much more refined.

The sale of the present 500cc motorcycles will come to an end on March 31, 2020 – a day before the BS6 norms come into effect. However, the bikes will continue to be available in international markets; and local customers will have access to services and spares.
