Nissan clarifies its stance on alleged Alliance split

In a bid to end speculation regarding its split from Renault, Alliance partner Nissan has issued a release stating, “Contrary to the assertions in international media reports, Nissan is in no way considering dissolving the Alliance.”

A Financial Times report had earlier stated that Nissan was reportedly pushing for a split from Alliance partner Renault, which was reportedly accelerated after Carlos Ghosn fled Japan, where he faces charges of financial misconduct. However, Nissan has now clarified its stance and assures its commitment to the Alliance by saying, “The Alliance is the source of Nissan’s competitiveness. Through the Alliance, to achieve sustainable and profitable growth, Nissan will look to continue delivering win-win results for all member companies.”

The Japanese carmaker further stated that, along with partners Renault and Mitsubishi Motors, it set up the Alliance Operating Board (AOB) in March 2019 as “a foundation for continuous enhancement and underpinning for future success.” Since then, the AOB has been the sole body overseeing all operations of the Alliance.

In November 2019, all AOB members agreed to enhance and accelerate operational efficiency and maximize the contribution of the Alliance for the benefit of the member companies.
