Hyundai Aura diesel deliveries to start in select cities

Hyundai had begun accepting bookings for the entire Aura range – which is priced from Rs 5.80-8.55 lakh for the petrols and Rs 7.74-9.24 lakh for the diesels – back on January 3. At the car's launch earlier today, Hyundai officials disclosed that the carmaker will prioritise deliveries of the diesel versions in markets where BS6 fuels are readily available. In effect, buyers in markets such as Delhi NCR, where BS6 fuels are readily available, can expect delivery immediately. Post April 1, 2020, which is when BS6 fuels become available pan-India, the delivery schedule will be as per booking.

All buyers, regardless of BS6 fuel availability in their city, will be notified of the delivery time frame at the time of booking.

Hyundai insiders did clarify that running the Aura diesel on BS4 fuel for a few months will not harm the engine. The Aura's 1.2-litre diesel engine uses a Lean NOx Trap to help comply with BS6 emission norms.

Hyundai's 1.2-litre will be the smallest BS6-compliant diesel in India. Tata has withdrawn its 1.05 diesel and Mahindra will also pull the plug on its 1.2 diesel. Among compact sedans, the Aura is the only model to feature a BS6 diesel at the moment. However, the Honda Amaze and Ford Aspire will get BS6 diesels in the months to come.
