The selected dealerships will fulfill sales as well as service requirements for the Nexon EV and will also feature dedicated charging stations with up to 25kW DC fast chargers. Prospective customers from towns that are not a part of Tata’s shortlist will have the facility of reaching out to the appropriate sales locations through their nearest Tata dealership.

As the first model to utilise the automaker’s new ‘Ziptron’ electrical architecture, the all-electric compact SUV packs in a 30.2kWh lithium-ion battery powering a motor that is good for 129hp and 245Nm of torque. ARAI-certified range is pegged at 312km on a single charge. A DC fast charger can take the battery level from 0-80 percent in just 1hr, and the time for a 15A AC supply to deliver a full charge is 8-9hr.

In terms of safety, the Nexon EV comes equipped with dual front airbags, ABS, Isofix child seat mounts, rear parking sensors, front occupant seatbelt reminder and a high speed alert system as standard. With a total of three variants on offer, the eSUV in the top-spec XZ+ LUX trim features automatic climate control, keyless entry/go, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, rear camera, sunroof, leatherette upholstery and auto headlamps and wipers.

Tata’s strategy for a staggered launch of its electric vehicle in a select few cities is not uncommon. For instance, Hyundai’s Kona Electric is retailed in 11 cities only, while MG recently launched the ZS EV in just five cities.

When it goes on sale in the coming days, the Nexon EV is touted to be priced at Rs 15-17 lakh (ex-showroom). Though it will not have any direct competitors at the time of launch (as the Kona and ZS EV are positioned a segment above), it will have to contend with the Mahindra XUV300 electric in 2021.
