BS6 KTM 200 Duke to share design with the 250 Duke

The 200 Duke is set to get its biggest update since it had first launched in 2012. The BS6-compliant 200cc sport-naked will finally ditch the first-gen Duke’s styling and use newer design elements that first debuted on the 390 Duke.

While some bits will be similar to the 390 Duke, the components used are closer to those found on the 250 Duke. The 200 Duke is set to get the sharper-looking headlight, although powered by a halogen-bulb, like on the 250 Duke. It will also gets the same LED DRL as the 250. Another big component it will share with the 250, and its previous-gen avatar, is the instrument console – the 200 Duke will not get the TFT screen found on the 390 Duke and 390 Adventure, which isn’t surprising considering it is meant to be a more cost-efficient model.

Along with the new body panels, the 200 Duke will also get the bolt-on subframe from its more expensive siblings. What won’t change, however, is the 199.5cc engine. While it will get a revised exhaust system, we don’t expect the power figure to change all that much – the single-cylinder engine will continue to make around 25hp and 19Nm of torque.

When it comes to its BS6 models, KTM’s penchant for aggressive pricing is expected to continue. An increase of around Rs 5,000-10,000 is what we will most likely see on this updated model.

Interestingly, this leaves only the 125 Duke with the older-gen styling. We believe that the KTM’s smallest offering will get the new-gen design too, in the coming weeks. It does not make financial sense for KTM to engineer different body panels for just one model, which is we we expect parts to be shared between the 125 Duke and its larger capacity siblings.

There’s also the fact that the 125 Duke’s design is really old, even though the bike isn’t. This is something KTM will most likely want to change.
