The BS6-compliant Santro’s launch is imminent, and we have now got our hands on the hatchback’s prices. Hyundai’s BS6 Santro is set to be priced from Rs 4.57 lakh for the base Era Executive and go up to Rs 6.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) for the new Asta AMT variant. The BS4 car was only offered with the AMT gearbox option in the mid-level Magna and Sportz trim.
Compared to the BS4 model, prices are up by up to Rs 27,000, depending on the variant. Interestingly, the CNG variants do not see a hike in pricing, which could indicate that the bi-fuel engine has not been upgraded to BS6.
As previously reported by us, the upgraded BS6-compliant 1.1-litre petrol engine will continue to develop an identical 69hp and 99Nm of torque, like the BS4 model, and is paired with either a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox. There is no word yet on how the fuel efficiency of the vehicle will be affected with the shift to BS6.
On the equipment front, Hyundai is expected to leave the features list unchanged, with the fully loaded models continuing to offer kit such as a 7.0-inch touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple Car Play connectivity, rear-view camera, power-adjust wing mirrors, and steering mounted controls, to name a few.
On the safety front, all variants get a driver airbag, ABS, front seat belt reminders, a speed warning system and rear parking sensors, with higher variants adding in a reverse camera and a passenger airbag.
In its segment, the Santro is the second model to be upgraded to meet BS6 emission norms, with Maruti Suzuki having upgraded the Wagon R – both the 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre models – to meet the new emission standards last year. The Tata Tiago too is due for an update, with the BS6 version set to arrive with the facelift. Tata will, however, only update the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol motor to meet the stricter emission standards, with the 1.05-litre diesel set to be dropped entirely.
