Maruti Suzuki Ertiga sales cross 5 lakh-unit milestone

Maruti has announced that since the launch of the first-generation of the Ertiga eight years ago, it has sold over 5 lakh units of the MPV in our market. The first-gen model had arrived back in 2012 and then in 2018, the second-gen model was launched. Over the years, the Ertiga has carved out a space for itself in our market as a model that consistently performs well on the sales charts.

The second-generation of the Ertiga is based on Maruti’s Heartect platform and it features new interior and exterior styling. Mechanically, the MPV comes with a BS6-compliant 1.5-litre petrol engine that is good for 105hp and 138Nm of torque – the unit is paired to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque-convertor automatic gearbox. The Ertiga’s petrol engine comes with Maruti’s SHVS technology – a mild-hybrid system that claims to aid fuel efficiency. The carmaker also offers the MPV with a BS4-compliant 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 95hp and 225Nm of torque (it comes mated to a 6-speed manual as standard), along with CNG-powered version of the car. As Maruti Suzuki will be phasing out diesel engines before the new BS6 emission norms come into effect on April 1, 2020, the diesel variant will be dropped from the MPV’s line-up. However, this might change in the future.

The Indian carmaker also launched the XL6 earlier this year, which is a more premium six-seat MPV, based on the Ertiga. In terms of competitors, the Ertiga rivals the likes of the Mahindra Marazzo and the Renault Lodgy.
