It hasn’t even been a month since Husqvarna made its debut in India with two models – the Svartpilen 250 and Vitpilen 250 – and we now have news that a third model is on its way. This third model will be the recently revealed Svartpilen 200 and it is expected arrive in showrooms in the third quarter of 2020.
Like the 250s, the Svartpilen 200 is shares many of its components with a KTM. It uses the same 200cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected liquid-cooled motor as the 200 Duke that makes 26hp, according to the global website. Mated to this DOHC engine is a 6-speed gearbox. Other mechanicals like the suspension and brakes remain similar too. That said, the Svartpilen 200 shares its frame with the 250cc Husqvarnas and KTMs, and not the 200 Duke. The Svartpilen 200 uses a bolt-on subframe unlike the welded unit on the 125 and 200 Dukes.
The Svartpilen 200 that has been revealed on the international website uses the same alloy wheels as the Svartpilen 250 and not wire-spoke wheels seen on the 401. Other components like the body panels and LED lighting are also identical to that of the Svartpilen 250. However, the 200 runs an underslung exhaust and not the side-mounted one found on the 250.
The Svartpilen 200 will come in as a more affordable model to its 250cc counterpart. That said, it’s still expected to cost around Rs 10,000-15,000 more than the BS6 KTM 200 Duke – the BS4 version of the KTM costs Rs 1.62 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
For those of you wondering why there isn’t news about a Vitpilen 200, it’s because it is expected to debut quite a bit after the Svartpilen 200. The scrambler-style Svartpilen, with its upright riding position and dual-terrain tyres, is expected to attract more buyers in India.
