BS6 Honda City petrol launched at Rs 9.91 lakh

Honda has finally revealed prices for the BS6-compliant City petrol. Now priced between Rs 9.91 lakh and Rs 14.31 lakh, the BS6 City costs about Rs 15,000 more (on average) than the BS4 version. Interestingly, Honda has also hiked prices for the BS4-compliant City diesel, but by a marginal Rs 5,000. The Japanese brand confirmed that the BS6-compliant diesel model would arrive closer to the April 2020 deadline for the emission norms. The table below has the variant-wise prices:

Honda City variant-wise prices (ex-showroom, Delhi)
Variant BS6 petrol price (Difference) BS4 diesel (Difference)
SV MT Rs 9.91 lakh (+Rs 10,000) Rs 11.11 lakh (None)
V MT Rs 10.66 lakh (+Rs 15,000) Rs 11.91 lakh (+Rs 5,000)
VX MT Rs 11.82 lakh (+Rs 15,000) Rs 13.02 lakh (+Rs 5,000)
ZX MT Rs 13.01 lakh (+Rs 15,000) Rs 14.21 lakh (+Rs 5,000)
V CVT Rs 12.01 lakh (+Rs 9,000) -
VX CVT Rs 13.12 lakh (+Rs 15,000) -
ZX CVT Rs 14.31 lakh (+Rs 15,000) -

When we had previously reported on the BS6 City’s price, we had said that the increase should really affect sales of the midsize sedan, considering it is already one of the more expensive cars in the segment.

It should be noted that, out of the lot of mid-size sedan, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Honda City are the only ones right now that are BS6-complaint. The Hyundai Verna and Toyota Yaris are scheduled to get BS6 version of their current petrol engines (the Hyundai will also inherit the Kia’s Seltos’ BS6 1.5-litre diesel mill), while the Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento’s 1.6-litre petrol is soon going to be replaced with a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol.

Until the next-gen Honda City arrives in India by mid-2020, the current, fourth-gen model will continue to be on sale. Since the first-gen City arrived in India back in 1998, the sedan has made a name for itself as a sporty, yet comfortable and spacious model.

All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi
