BMW’s BS6 range to be priced 6 percent higher

With the deadline for the BS6 emission norms nearing, BMW has said that its entire petrol line-up is already in compliance with the upcoming standard. The carmaker has also announced that it has commenced local assembly of its first BS6 diesel models in India – the 5 Series and 6 Series GT. The X1 has also been earmarked as the next diesel model to meet BS6 norms.

This means that, at the very least, the 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which is tuned to produce 190hp and 400Nm of torque, has been upgraded to meet the new norms. This engine is available in the BMW 520d, 620d, and the X1 20d, along with a number of other BMW models like the 3 Series, X3, X4.

The carmaker has said that all its latest products that launched in India in 2019 are available in BS4 and BS6 form and that starting from 2020, BMW would hike prices of its BS6-compliant models by up to 6 percent. For example, the BMW X1’s price, which is current between Rs 35.20-45.70 lakh is likely to increase to Rs 37.30-48.40 lakh.

Speaking on the occasion Rudratej Singh, President and Chief Executive Officer, BMW Group India said, “2019 has been exciting for us as our new product portfolio has triggered remarkable traction in the luxury car market. Early start of BS6 production is a strategic call we are taking to meet the unprecedented demand for our new products. Today, BMW India customers have the choice of buying a BS6 car across the entire product portfolio. The present BMW range is extremely attractive because of its unique position with latest products, newest technology as well as superbly attractive ownership packages on limited stocks of BS4 variants.”

In 2019, BMW introduced a slew of new and/or updated products including the X4, X5 and X7 SUVs, along with the 7 Series facelift – available for the first time as a plug-in-hybrid in India, the new 3 Series and the new Z4 roadster.

Prices are ex-showroom, pan-India
