Maruti has updated its popular people mover once again, this time structurally, in order to comply with the latest crash test norms that came into effect on October 1, 2019. The upgrade has come with a hike in prices – the Eeco range is now priced from Rs 3.61 lakh for the entry-level Standard (5-seater) variant, and goes up to Rs 6.61 lakh for the Eeco Care. This means that the Eeco line-up has seen an increase in price of Rs 6,000-9,000, depending on the variant.
Maruti Suzuki is keen on keeping its Eeco MPV as part of its line-up, even with all the new safety regulations that have come into place. The carmaker had updated the Eeco with a host of features including ABS with EBD, a driver airbag, reverse parking sensors, etc. when the April 1, 2019 safety norms came into effect.
Currently, Maruti offers the Eeco with the BS4-compliant 1,196cc, four-cylinder motor, which makes 73hp and 101Nm of torque in petrol form, and 63hp and 85Nm of torque when running on CNG. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. We had previously reported that Maruti Suzuki will also upgrade this engine to meet BS6 norms before the April 1, 2020 deadline.
