All-new Honda Jazz leaked ahead of Tokyo debut

It was earlier in June this year that we got a first glimpse of the all-new Honda Jazzwith an online image that depicted the hatchback in the hot-hatch Type R spec. Now, more images have leaked online that show the standard model, ahead of its debut at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.

Changes from the Type R are few – it gets a less aggressive look, with revised bumpers, lack of rear spoiler and a body coloured element housing the Honda ‘H’ badge on the grille. The new fourth-gen model still retains some its predecessor's basic design cues, with the mono-volume, almost MPV-like profile, and a rising window-line with a prominent kink at the start of the front door.

While interior details remain scarce, images of test mules have pointed at a touchscreen sitting atop the centre console, a digital instrument cluster, and revised control surfaces. The cabin is also expected to be up on space and comfort, as compared to the current model.

The new image also shows the words 'HEV' on the car’s number plate alongside its name – the Fit, as it's known in some markets. The HEV badge goes with the information previously available that suggests the car will be offered with both, standard petrol and hybrid powertrains when it goes on sale globally.

Engine options are expected to include a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit, along with a new compact version of Honda’s i-MMD hybrid technology, coupled with either a 1.2-litre or 1.5-litre petrol motor.

The new Jazz will share its platform with the India-bound next-gen Honda City. Also expected to be shared is the new hybrid system, with Honda looking at introducing hybrid technologies on more Indian model to meet the CAFÉ standards.
