New Hyundai ix25 with revised interior debuts at Chengdu

Hyundai had unveiled the new ix25 (next-gen Creta) in Shanghai earlier in the year. The second-gen SUV featured a design that’s in line with Hyundai’s newer SUVs on sale globally, with a split headlamp setup, prominent cascading grille, and a more rounded and less upright design. Inside, the highlight of the SUV had been its digital instrument cluster and the large portrait touchscreen.

Now, Hyundai has showcased a second version of the ix25 with a redesigned cabin. While exterior styling is still true to the model revealed earlier in the year, the dashboard design is now more similar to the new Kia Seltos’.

As with the Seltos, the SUV, showcased at Chengdu, features a large landscape-oriented touchscreen sitting within a large binnacle atop the dashboard that also houses the instrument cluster.  Under the touchscreen sit slim, new air con vents and revised air con controls. The centre console also features revisions, with an electronic parking brake and push-buttons for the automatic gearbox, along with a large, covered storage bin. The remainder of the cabin is similar to the previously revealed model, which also featured a sunroof.

Compared to the current Creta, the new ix25 30mm taller, 10mm wider and 8mm lower, with the wheelbase also up by 20mm. The dimensions of the next-gen Creta for India, which is due to arrive next year, are expected to be similar to those of the China-spec model.

The next-gen Creta for India will share its platform with the recently launched new Kia Seltos and be offered with the same BS6 complaint 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine options. The Seltos’ 1.4-litre turbo-petrol unit could also be on the cards for the India-spec SUV.

The new Creta, when it arrives in India, will rival the likes of the Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Tata Harrier, Nissan Kicks and Renault Captur.
