Hyundai has confirmed today that the next-gen Creta will come with three engine options in India, and will see a market launch sometime next year. The second-gen Creta was recently spotted for the first time in our country on the outskirts of Chennai. At the Grand i10 Nios’ launch event, the company also confirmed BS6-compliant, new 1.5-litre diesel and petrol engines for its existing and future products in India; back in August 2018, we had reported about Hyundai’s new 1.5-litre engine strategy for India.
The new Hyundai 1.5-litre diesel engine will have two power outputs, where the lower powered version will replace the current 1.4-litre diesel and the more powerful VGT-equipped version will take the place of the current 1.6-litre unit. Similarly, the new 1.5-litre petrol will replace the 1.4-litre engine in the brand’s India range.
The next-gen Creta will share its underpinnings with the Kia Seltos and it will be quite similar in dimensions as well. The new SUV will come with not one but three engine options for India – a 115hp/144Nm 1.5-litre petrol (6-speed manual and CVT), a 115hp/250Nm 1.5-litre diesel (6-speed manual and 6-speed auto), and a 140hp/242Nm 1.4-litre turbo-petrol (6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT auto) unit.
Apart from the Creta and Seltos, the new 115hp 1.5-litre diesel is expected to see duty in more Hyundai and Kia models in the near future.
