2004-14 Ford Endeavour SUV recalled in India

Ford India has issued a recall for 22,690 units of the previous-generation Endeavour SUV to inspect the front airbag inflators. These vehicles were produced by Ford’s Chennai plant between February 2004 and September 2014.

The American brand has also announced that it will conduct inspections of a number of models that rolled out of Ford’s Sanand plant in Gujarat made between September 2017 and April 2019. The cars’ (namely the Figo hatchback, Freestyle cross-hatch and the Aspire compact sedan) Battery Monitoring System (BMS) wiring harnesses installation will be inspected to make sure it is in working order.

Ford will contact individual customers to bring in their models to get the inspection done at the nearest convenient dealership.

The Figo, Aspire and Freestyle are, in essence, three body styles based on the same car and share a lot of mechanical parts, design elements and equipment. All three are powered by Ford’s 96hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine and 100hp 1.5-litre diesel motor (both get a 5-speed manual as standard), though the hatchback and compact sedan also get the option of a 123hp, 1.5-litre petrol engine that comes paired to 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

In the recent past, Ford had updated its EcoSport range to better face the increasing level of competition from the likes of the Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV300. Going forward, the brand is working with Mahindra to bring out a new SUV (which will also be the base for the next-gen Mahindra XUV500) that will enter the already heavily contested midsize SUV segment.
