The Pune-based tech startup, Tork Motors, raised a lot of expectations with the unveiling of India’s first electric motorcycle, the T6X, over two years ago. The bike was meant to be launched soon after, but little has been known about its progress since. However, a near-production-ready test mule of the T6X has finally been spotted for the first time.
The bike seen is similar to the prototype that was initially unveiled, apart from a few aspects. The most noticeable being the lack of body panels on the side, exposing the trellis frame structure.
At the centre is a 6kW electric motor which also acts a stressed member, and produces 27Nm of torque. Images of the bike show that the final drive consists of an unconventionally large rear sprocket. When the T6X was unveiled, it was announced that the top speed would be limited to 100kph. The bike’s battery was claimed to reach 80 percent capacity with one hour of charging, with a full charge taking two hours. Given that these claims were made way back in 2016, it will be interesting to see if the numbers have improved.
Another highlight of the bike was a TFT instrument cluster which was equipped with Tork’s ‘Intuitive Response Operating System’. Tork said that the system was designed to monitor the bike's vitals, and also let the rider switch between sporty and economical drive modes. However, the test bike seen did not seem to be fitted with an instrument cluster.
The test bike was seen using a conventional telescopic fork at the front, while rear suspension duties were taken care of by a monoshock unit. Tork had earlier said the production ready bike will sport ABS, but the test mule did not have this feature. We are also unclear on whether the bike will get a single channel or double channel unit.
We are still awaiting official information on price and other launch details but the brand’s initial plan was to introduce the T6X in three cities – Pune, Bengaluru and New Delhi – at an introductory price of Rs 1,24,999.
