New Renault MPV to get upmarket cabin, AMT gearbox

Renault is all set to bring in an all-new MPV to the Indian market that will rival the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. This new model will be based on the same CMF-A modular platform that underpins the Kwid. It will slot below the Lodgy and get three rows of seats. The model will be less than four meters long, which will help the carmaker price it competitively.

The new Renault MPV will have premium dual-tone interiors, with a subtle dose of chrome, and its steering wheel is likely to be shared with the Captur. It will also feature a large touchscreen system, at least on the higher variants. As far as safety goes, the MPV will be equipped with standard dual front airbags, with some variants also getting side airbags. Rear parking sensors, reverse camera and speed warning system will make it on the model as well. The MPV will also get LED daytime running lamps and other cosmetic bits to make it look upmarket.

Powering this new MPV will be the same 1.0-litre petrol engine as on the Kwid but it will use a turbocharger for extra power. The model is expected to come with a five-speed manual as well as an AMT gearbox.

Expect Renault to price its new MPV around Rs 4.5 lakh for the entry-level variant when it launches in mid-2019.
