Mahindra XUV300 low-spec trim spotted

Mahindra’s new rival to the likes of the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport is scheduled to launch in mid-February. In the run-up to the launch, images showing the lower-spec variant of the XUV300 have leaked online, which suggests that Mahindra’s new compact SUV will be well-kitted across the range.

While it is uncertain if the model pictured is in its base trim (expected to be called W2), the images do show the SUV with quite a lot of kit. On the outside, this version of the XUV300 features LED tail-lamps and a roof-mounted rear brake light. Smaller 16-inch wheels rather than the top-spec model’s 17-inch alloys can also be expected.

On the inside, key differences can be seen, compared to the top-spec XUV300. Mahindra has equipped the lower-spec XUV300’s cabin with a manual AC (the top-spec gets dual-zone climate control), a 2-DIN audio system with USB, Aux and Bluetooth compatibility, power windows, power adjustable wing mirrors and a tachometer; along with a digital MID in the instrument cluster. The dual-tone dashboard and adjustable neck restraints for all passengers seem to be shared across all the variants.

The Mahindra XUV300 will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 123hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine, both of which are mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. An automatic gearbox is expected to be offered at a later date.

As prices for the XUV300 are expected to start at about Rs 7.5 lakh, the base versions of Mahindra’s new compact SUV will be well-priced and decently equipped compared to its competition. The top-spec trim (priced at about Rs 12 lakh) may also be a viable option to the likes of the Hyundai Creta.
