New Hyundai Santro has an 80-day waiting period

A quick check with a few Hyundai dealers across India has revealed that the waiting period for the petrol-manual and the petrol-AMT variants of the new Santro is more than two months, while CNG-equipped models have a longer three-month waiting period.

Hyundai has announced that its all-new Santro hatchback has garnered over 38,500 bookings since the model launched on October 23, 2018. The announcement also states that the brand received more than 2.1 lakh enquiries for the Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Tata Tiago rival. Bookings for the new hatchback had opened on October 10.

The Korean brand has revealed that 30 percent of the bookings made were for AMT-equipped models, while 18 percent were for the Santro CNG. The AMT and CNG kit are only available on the mid-spec Magna and Sportz trims (Rs 5.18-5.64 lakh). The remaining 52 percent of the bookings were for the standard petrol-manual variants. Our exclusive report had revealed that the mid-spec trims – Era, Magna and Sportz – garnered the most demand.

The Santro was launched at an introductory price of Rs 3.89 lakh for the base D-Lite trim, while the top-spec Asta variant costs Rs 5.45 lakh. One of the new hatchback’s USPs is that it boasts a few segment-first features such as rear AC vents and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. However, safety kit is more or less on par with its rivals, though only the top-of-the-line variant gets dual front airbags; other trims make do with a driver’s side unit only.

The introductory prices will last only until the first 50,000 bookings after which Hyundai will revise prices for the Santro.
