Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has crossed the 2.5 crore sales mark in the scooter segment. It has become the first company to reach this milestone and the biggest contributor to this massive figure is the Honda Activa.
Interestingly, it took Honda 13 years to achieve the one crore sales figure, but it managed to add another crore in the span of just three years. It then went on to achieve the next 50 lakh in just one year. Honda claims that it is now India’s top scooter-selling brand, holding 57 percent of the market share. Honda has also said that every second scooter sold in India is one of theirs.
Honda has the largest scooter portfolio in India. The current line-up includes the Activa, Activa-i, Activa 125, Aviator, Cliq, Dio, Grazia and the Navi. The company’s biggest seller, by far, is the 110cc Activa. It is responsible for over 2,00,000 sales units each month. The most recent scooter offering from the company is the Grazia. It is also the most premium scooter offering from the company and has managed to clock two lakh sales within 11 months of its launch.
Mr. Yadvinder Singh Guleria, senior vice president - sales and marketing, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. said, “From activating the scooter market to becoming the largest selling two-wheeler in the country, the Activa transformed the way Indians ride. Honda firmly aims to lead the next wave of scooterisation which has already started in Tier-II and Tier-III towns.”
